Shawn was absolutely INCREDIBLE. We had him for my husband’s birthday party and we were all blown away. So funny, so kind, and absolutely mind blowing magic. Planning a party comes with practical questions. Here are the ones Shawn hears most from hosts.
What kinds of private events does Shawn perform at?
Birthdays and milestone celebrations, anniversaries, dinner parties, holiday and house parties, engagement parties, bachelor and bachelorette parties, reunions, and wedding receptions. If people are gathered and you want them talking to each other, it works.
Will it work for a mixed-age crowd?
Yes — and that’s one of the reasons hosts book him. Shawn’s material plays to adults without leaving anyone out, and it stays clean. Grandparents and college kids react to the same trick for different reasons, which is exactly what you want at a family party.
Do I need a stage, or space, or equipment?
No. Strolling and close-up magic need nothing but people and a little floor. A living room works. A backyard works. A private dining room works. For a stage set, Shawn will let you know what he needs, and it’s less than you’d expect.
How many guests is right for this?
Anywhere from a dinner for ten to a party of two hundred. Smaller groups usually get close-up magic; larger groups get strolling magic that moves through the room, or a seated show. Tell Shawn your headcount, and he’ll tell you what fits.
How long does he perform?
Typically one to two hours of strolling or close-up magic, or a 30–45 minute seated show. Longer events and multiple formats are common — it’s built around your evening, not a fixed package.
How much does it cost to hire a magician for a private party?
It depends on the format, the size of the group, the venue, and travel. There’s no flat rate because there’s no flat event. Tell Shawn what you’re planning, and you’ll get a straight number quickly — no packages to decode.
How far in advance should I book?
As soon as you have a date. December, May, and June go first. That said, Shawn does fill last-minute openings, so it’s always worth asking.
Does Shawn travel outside Denver?
Yes. He performs throughout the Denver metro and Front Range — Boulder, Fort Collins, Colorado Springs, Vail, Aspen — and travels nationwide for clients.
